Oris Depth Gauge
Depth Gauge
By applying Boyle-Mariotte's Law, Oris engineers constructed the new, patented depth gauge. The special sapphire glass is 50% thicker than ordinary watch glass and has a channel milled into the side, which runs counterclockwise around the dial and stops between 1 and 2 o'clock. At the 12 o'clock position there is an inlet which serves as a channel opening. As it descends, the air in the channel is compressed by increasing water pressure and water can enter through the inlet. The transition from light gray to dark gray indicates the dividing line between the compressed air and the entering water and serves as an indication of depth. This can be read from the scale on the dial. The indicator reacts immediately and always indicates the correct depth. The robust, stainless steel case gives the watch a functional "instrument look" and features a single-sided rotating bezel with ceramic inlay. TheOris Aquis Depth Gauge is water resistant to 500m and represents a technical breakthrough in depth measurement.
